Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day 2016

We attended the traditional event to pay tribute to those who served in the Vietnam War, held this year on April 2. The names of the 1741 New Yorkers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War and of the 93 who fell in post-9/11 deployments were read in a ceremony at the Church of St. Andrew. The Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day Tribute and Expo was held in the 55 Water Street Promenade in Manhattan, adjacent to the Vietnam Veterans Plaza.
A large number of Veterans and friends were in attendance, the moral support for those who served was unmistakable.

Douglas McGowan, Chairman of the United War Veterans Council, Dan McSweeney, President of of the United War Veterans Council, Monsignor Leslie J. Ivers, Director of the Ongoing Formation of Priests in the Archdiocese of New York, Dr. Loree Sutton, NYC Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, Jamal Othman, Deputy Director of the NY State Division of Veterans Affairs, Paul Bucha, who received the Congressional Medal of Honor as an Army Captain, Letitia James, Public Advocate for the City of New York and Sue Malley, Director of the New York Regional Office of the Veterans Benefits Administration addressed the audience.
Michelle DellaFave, alumna of the Bob Hope USO Tours to Vietnam performed the national Anthem.

The Federation was represented by our President Alain Dupuis, Joseph Crouzilhat, Henri Dubarry and Daniel Falgerho.

Alain Charles, architect and President of the American Memorial Association of St Nazaire also attended the ceremony. The Association is dedicated to the creation of a virtual Memorial to the pilots and crews of the 8th US Air Force who perished during the operations in the St Nazaire area in 1944. St Nazaire is also home to a monument commemorating the arrival of US troops under the command of General Pershing in 1917. A creation of the artist Gertrude V. Whitney the monument was destroyed by German troops in 1941 and rebuilt in 1989. More information is available on:
